Resistance, but Make it Feminist: An Empowering Approach

This week we’ve invited Eliza Cussen, political writer and organizer, to share her perspective on why a feminist approach is what we need to center in today’s world.

Between my last meeting of the day and school pickup, I opened TikTok to see ICE agents marching down Michigan Avenue, showing strength to tourists, office workers, and the people in line for lunch at Raisin Cane’s. With no threat in sight, it was closer to a drag performance than law enforcement. These men in costumes are using a script that we’ve seen over and over again: trust us, male violence will keep you safe

A world without violence has never existed, but what if it did? What if we make a world that centers children, rather than pulling them from their beds? What if a Department of War became the Department of Peace?

To me feminism is an act of imagining. It is the best framework on which we can pin our dreams. It is not about replacing masculine power with a feminine one. Instead, it asks for power to be redistributed among the vulnerable, regardless of gender, sex, race, or wealth.

So this November, a year after and a year before the election, we invite you to imagine with us.

Let’s co-create a new world together.

Michelle Morkert, PhD, a globally renowned scholar on power and gender, and I invite you to Feminist Resistance 101 on November 2nd, 2025. This half-day workshop invites women looking to tap into their individual strengths while exploring how feminist history and theory can help us meet this moment in the world.

Feminist Resistance 101 is for you if…

You long for community amidst the chaos.

Join a group of aligned women in a sacred feminine space where you can show up exactly as you are.

You’re interested in finding your unique form of resistance and don’t know where to start.

Michelle and I will give you a toolbox of small, approachable steps that anyone can take to compound toward greater impact. We’re here to support you no matter how you’re wanting to show up: whether that’s through community organizing, effective conversation, protests, art, or more, we’ll help you tailor your unique, individual approach.

You want to feel connected, useful, and hopeful.

We’ll help you craft your self-coaching toolkit that keeps you rooted and effective, including grounding techniques to steady your nervous system (because feminist resistance is a full-body endeavor).

You want to give your tired brain a way to think clearly about what’s unfolding around us all.

You’ll learn the 2025 Conversation Survival Guide, which teaches you how to talk to people who disagree without losing your mind or wasting time. We’ll teach you how to strategically protect your energy by choosing your battles.

Patriarchy got us into this; feminism can get us out.

I hope you’ll join us for this interactive, fun, no-fluff workshop. Together, we’ll explore how women have made history by joining, sharing knowledge, and building radical community. You’ll leave with easy-to-accomplish, burnout-free strategies to significantly increase your impact. See you there!

Tickets are available now for Feminist Resistance 101 through November 2nd, 2025. You can secure your seat here. Looking for more thought-leaders and change-makers at ALTAR? See our full calendar of events and offerings here.
