|ALTAR Community
Join us for Re/Construction: a documentary that follows a growing movement of women who, in the aftermath of breast cancer, are choosing to live flat after mastectomy—and fighting for the right to do so.

Time & Location
Oct 28, 2026, 5:30 PM – 8:00 PM
ALTAR Community, 2518 W Armitage Ave, Chicago, IL 60647, USA
About the Event
ALTAR is proud to partner with the filmmakers behind Re/Construction and the American Cancer Society to present an evening of film, conversation, and community in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Their stories invite us into a larger conversation: Who gets to make decisions about women's bodies, and what does it take for women's choices to be respected?
The evening will include:
Light bites and refreshments
Screening of an excerpt from Re/Construction
Filmmakers Samantha Sanders and Paula Froehle, along with a panel of women working in this space, will facilitate a discussion on: "How have cultural norms and expectations of our bodies shaped choices we’ve made for our health? What has your experience been when discussing health concerns with your doctor and as women how can we best advocate for ourselves in a patriarchal medical system?"
