In Chicago, we’re certainly spoiled for choice when it comes to great food, delicious drinks, and interesting places to visit. If anything, we might have too many options to choose from—which can give us serious decision fatigue.
Many of us at ALTAR have called Chicago home for decades at this point, so we get asked a lot about our favorite places:
“Where’s your favorite café in Logan Square?”
“Where do you get lunch when you’re working at ALTAR all day?”
“Any place I should check out while I’m in the neighborhood?”
Well, we’re finally putting our collective knowledge to use! We’re delighted to share some of our favorite places in Logan Square, hand-selected from our staff and our membership community.
The List: Logan Square Essentials
Below, you’ll find seven places we love based on different categories, along with some personal recommendations and must-try treats throughout. Whether you live nearby or are coming to Logan Square for something special (perhaps you’re attending an event at ALTAR?), this list will steer you in the right direction.
For a Flavorful Latte
1816 N Milwaukee Ave
Technically in Bucktown, but very close to ALTAR, thrd coffee is a great spot to grab a seriously tasty drink. You can’t go wrong with either a classic or matcha latte, depending on your personal taste and caffeine preference. We recommend perusing their rotating seasonal menu and seeing what calls to you—there are some seriously fun, creative, and flavorful options available!
For a Quick, Nutritious & Delicious Lunch
2255 N Milwaukee Ave
FARE is THE go-to place for ALTAR’s team. We love the rotating seasonal menu, the nourishing, generous portions, and that each bowl is packed with flavor. My personal favorite are the turkey meatballs—you can tell they’re made with love! Other staff favorites are the spicy salmon bowl (especially during fall with the seasonal produce) and the flavorful miso tofu.
For a Sweet Treat
2745 W Armitage Ave
We love this women-owned confectionary that’s making sweet bites that are truly unique and special. The menu includes truffles, marshmallows, espresso and more, but my personal recommendation is for the caramels—they are incredible! Keep an eye out for the seasonal flavors and definitely don’t miss out on the drinking chocolate in the fall.
For Brunch, Especially on Good Weather Days
2840 W Armitage Ave
Great drinks, tasty pizza, and brunch? Middle Brow tics all the boxes we look for when we’re wanting a fun, memorable meal out in the neighborhood. Their bread and pizza (not to mention pizza dough sandwiches!) are amazing. Best of all, they have nice patio seating for when you want to enjoy the warm weather days.
When You’re in Need of Deep Healing
2514 W Armitage Ave #211
While we’re proud to offer group programs and events at the intersection of healing and empowerment, ALTAR doesn’t have the one-on-one breadth that our neighbor, Intuit Healing, has to offer. Intuit offers intensive, trauma-informed practices that work on healing your body, mind, and spirit. From their website, “you can have talk therapy followed by a massage. Or maybe a reiki session followed by a sound healing class. From experiencing physical pain, to healing grief, to dealing with burnout, we are here to support you through all of life’s transitions.”
For Some Hands-On Fun
2514 W Armitage Ave
We love their tagline, “clay for the curious,” because it evokes what we’re passionate about at ALTAR—spaces where we can be curious, creative, and let our intuition guide us. Penguin Foot offers engaging classes, workshops, and memberships depending on your level of experience and interest. Another fun treat? They set out free pieces from time to time in the cabinet outside their door. Maybe take a peek next time you come to ALTAR?
A Wellness Favorite Among our Members
2560 W Armitage Ave
We’re always on the lookout for places in Chicago that incorporate traditional medicine with modern treatment methods, and Willow + Elm is a favorite among our ALTAR Member Community. Starting with a free consultation, their team—led by Dr. Caitlin Courtney—will guide you in discovering a path towards greater health in body, mind, and soul.
