About the Event

We're thrilled to welcome award-winning author, Elizabeth Lesser, to ALTAR, and to welcome back Lydia Ruyle's Goddess Banners in a pop-up exhibit entitled "God.As.Herself" curated by Katie Hoffner.

In this salon-style evening celebrating the power of women's stories, we invite you to immerse yourself with women who are championing change in our collective future. This extraordinary evening will weave together lively conversation, empowering images and the nourishing embrace of aligned community. These sacred images and powerful stories retold through a feminine lens offer an opportunity to "unlearn" the patriarchal conditioning that pervades our culture and our lives. This is an experience not to be missed!

Here's what's in store:

  • Welcome Reception with light bites, bubbles, & goddess-inspired elixirs.
  • Cassandra Speaks book reading and guided meditation
  • Herstory Retold panel discussion with Elizabeth Lesser & Katie Hoffner led by ALTAR Founder, Kathy Bresler
  • Dialogue with a Goddesses journaling exercise
  • Spacious time to mix, mingle, and take in the God.As.Herself. exhibit
  • A journal & goddess prayer flag for each participant to take home

"It's time for women to tell their versions of what it means to be fully human. It is time for men to respect those insights and it is time for all of us to integrate them into a new story of power.”  ― Elizabeth Lesser, Cassandra Speaks: When Women Are the Storytellers, the Human Story Changes

"Why icons?  Icons are soul images. Icons connect to the deep soul expression divine mystery of life.  All people and cultures create icons to honor the sacred dimension.  Images revere, remember, revision us to wholeness, the sacred energy of divine mystery. That mystery is feminine for me.  The goddess symbolizes for me the highest possible development of each human being's potential on mother earth and in the cosmos.” ― Lydia Ruyle, artist statement

Elizabeth Lesser is the cofounder of Omega Institute & the author of Cassandra Speaks, Marrow, The Seeker's Guide, and Broken Open. She has given two popular TED Talks and is a member of Oprah Winfrey's SuperSoul 100, a collection of one hundred leaders who are using their voices and talents to elevate humanity.

Katie Hoffner is a community leader and social change maker focused on protecting the environment and improving the lives of women. She is also the niece and journey-mate of Lydia Ruyle and the current guardian of Lydia’s 300+ goddess icon banners. Since 2016, Katie and “the girls” have been all over the world. For Katie, the banners represent her Kuleana, a Hawaiian word that connotes a responsibility of the living to protect the stories of the ohana (family). She is actively engaged in sharing her Aunt Lydia’s knowledge, artwork, and HERstories of the goddesses.
